0:02>> [laughter]
0:11>> It might not hurt.
0:14>> Oh, yeah.
0:15>> [clears throat]
0:17>> I was sitting in there yesterday and and
0:19I was the week I shared kind of over
0:21there.
0:22And I kept hearing it. I forgot that
0:24speech she had left on [name] in there. I
0:25mean, I
0:26walked in talking and I said
0:30Jesus.
0:33>> Good evening, everyone. It is exactly
0:3612:00 and at this time we will open our
0:38meeting with an invocation and a pledge.
0:43>> Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we come
0:44before you this afternoon thanking you
0:46for this day. We thank you for the rain
0:48that we're receiving now that we needed
0:51so much and we thank you for this
0:53opportunity to gather here this
0:54afternoon in the city hall and
0:56pertaining to
0:58um uh business uh Lord God pertaining to
1:01our city.
1:02And uh Lord, we just pray that you would
1:04in all things, not just today, but in
1:06all things give us wisdom beyond our
1:08experience or our knowledge pertaining
1:10to all the things of welfare and growth
1:13and uh of our city, Lord.
1:15And we just uh thank you today for all
1:18your blessings in our life and we give
1:19you the praise in Jesus' name. Amen.
1:24>> And now we'll do the pledge.
1:27>> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the
1:29United States of America and to the
1:32republic for which it stands, one nation
1:35under God, indivisible, with liberty and
1:38justice for all.
1:42>> [clears throat]
1:43>> At this time we once again recognize our
1:46visitors and I'll read the public
1:47comments from the audience. At this time
1:50members of the public will be allowed to
1:51speak on city related matters only. No
1:54personal personnel matters or matters
1:56under litigation will be allowed. The
1:58length of the time may not exceed 3
2:00minutes. Uh city council shall not speak
2:03under this term. I'm under this item,
2:06I'm sorry. In accordance with the Texas
2:08Open Meeting Act, the council may not
2:10deliberate deliberate or take action on
2:13matters except as properly posted in
2:15accordance with the law. With that being
2:18said, at this time we're open for public
2:20comments.
2:23Okay. If we have no public comments,
2:26we'll now go to our next item, uh
2:28business, consider and approve new
2:31street name.
2:34>> Mayor and council,
2:37the Lions Club reached out to us. Um
2:40actually it was
2:42I would say that this discussion has
2:43been off and on for the probably 4 or 5
2:45years now.
2:47there was a
2:50a request
2:52that
2:53Mr. [name] Walter be honored for his um
2:57his part that played in the development
3:01of the Agrena
3:02um and his his work um on the front end
3:07of the construction that went on out
3:08there in raising the funds and um
3:12at that point um
3:14no one really took the charge I guess to
3:17to say to about the uh the naming of
3:20that street.
3:21There's a drive as it's in your packets
3:25that is not named.
3:27So we don't have to go through a
3:29renaming process if a street is already
3:31designated and and named um under 911
3:34addressing
3:36requirements. Uh this is a uh
3:40gravel road
3:42that's just mainly used along the side
3:44of the Agrena from Bradshaw to the
3:46parking lot of the Agrena.
3:49Um here recently
3:51uh the Lions Club came to to us uh about
3:55a week ago and then
3:57with the Lions Club PRCA Rodeo that's
4:00coming up,
4:04>> [snorts]
4:04>> uh
4:05had a special request that we consider
4:07this and do this before that event. So,
4:10that's why the reason of a special
4:11called meeting so we could take care of
4:13the business.
4:16if uh that and
4:19uh we have Mr. uh Steven Wells, um Scott
4:22Shelley with the Lions Club here. Uh Mr.
4:24Steven Wells um said he'd like to just
4:26kind of present this
4:28to uh council and if y'all have
4:30questions or did you have some more
4:33information outside of
4:35they he presented a really nice um
4:40proposal, introduction, kind of a letter
4:42explaining uh Mr. Waldrep's
4:45impact on not just our community but our
4:49nation as well as his work with the uh
4:52Lions Club and the Ag Arena.
4:55So, did a really good job about uh
4:57presenting the case um
5:00for the naming of this. Um
5:03I would
5:05mention or request that council consider
5:07if we were to name it um
5:10um that we name it after the last name,
5:15Waldrep Road and not um first and last
5:19name.
5:20Um but I'm okay if y'all decide to do
5:22else,
5:23you know, if if y'all need it if y'all
5:25do decide to name it James
5:28Waldrep, um
5:32we don't have a lot of names we don't
5:34have a lot of a lot of streets
5:37in town so it would change up some of
5:39our
5:42categorizing of streets if we have two
5:44names to deal with.
5:50I don't know if y'all have questions
5:52>> I would
5:52>> or discussion.
5:54>> He was I thought I thought he was going
5:56to give up.
5:57>> I I'd be more than happy to
5:59answer your questions and then provide
6:00any other
6:03>> Oh yeah, we're we're and then we're
6:05delivered.
6:06>> This is probably recording. You can
6:07probably hear me better this way.
6:10Again, I'm Stephen Wells, president of
6:12the Crockett Lions Club.
6:14this proposal
6:16what James was mentioning.
6:18Let me start over.
6:19Ms. Mayor
6:20and council person
6:21>> Evening.
6:23>> Good afternoon. Um
6:25we appreciate this special session
6:28to address uh proposed naming of the
6:32service road that runs alongside the
6:34Four States Arena um
6:36and our
6:37request to have it named as the James
6:39Waldrip Service Road. Um understanding
6:42that there may be some constraints. Um
6:45if James is dropped from it
6:48you know, if we could at least maintain
6:50the service part of it um
6:54kind of in a in a dual nature. One
6:56because it is a service road between
6:58Bradshaw and the parking lot and also
7:00accesses the back side of the arena. But
7:02two because of James Waldrip's service
7:04not only to the Lions Club but to the
7:07county, the city uh the nation
7:10>> [clears throat]
7:11>> and his years of service.
7:14We we just wanted to direct to this
7:17So, with that I mean there's a couple
7:20questions that I'd be more than happy to
7:21answer or
7:23>> Okay.
7:25Well
7:26Now, what why are you saying you you
7:29would rather just do what why why both?
7:32>> Uh the dual names
7:33>> question, too.
7:34>> It's just going to change the
7:36on our uh listing of streets. All of our
7:38streets are um um, primarily single name
7:42roads. Um, it changes the It changes the
7:45types of signs that we have to install.
7:48Um, the posts for the sign. Just Those
7:51are some things that council needs to
7:54be aware of. I'm okay either way. I
7:55would just recommend that council at
7:57least
7:58>> I just think if we're going to honor
8:00James Waldrep, and he has all these many
8:03years served uh
8:04not only Lions Club but our community. I
8:06I I just think if we're going to do it
8:09because there's other people with the
8:10last names of Waldrep.
8:14>> That makes That makes sense. I'm just I
8:15want council to be aware of it. Yeah.
8:17You know, if we're going to do it, just
8:19be aware of it.
8:20>> I would just I personally would like for
8:22it to be named James Waldrep.
8:25>> And service is sort of like a double
8:27entendre, correct?
8:28>> Yes, sir. Yes. Meaning that it is a
8:30service road and all of his service that
8:32he has since 1960.
8:36>> Yeah.
8:37Yeah.
8:39Okay.
8:42>> So, the
8:44Okay.
8:45So, you're saying in the entire name
8:47would be James Waldrep Service Road?
8:51That would be the whole name on the
8:53deal?
8:54>> That That That would be the intent. I
8:56mean, if it's
8:57>> It's a spider or something falling down.
8:59>> But, how much uh I mean, how many times
9:02would that
9:04would the would the name be spoken? I
9:06mean, yeah. You know, I mean, how many
9:08times would it be used in in
9:10circumstances and situations other than
9:13just being posted as James Waldrep
9:15Service Road?
9:16>> Right.
9:19And And that's that's completely fine.
9:21It departs from our normal, just like
9:22Bradshaw, you know, James Bradshaw.
9:26You know,
9:27it's Bradshaw Street. Everything is
9:31pretty much um directed towards
9:34the recognition, but not the entire
9:36name. Um, so it just departs from some
9:38of our
9:39current usage, but it's not a problem at
9:41all. I mean, it however council decides.
9:43>> Yeah. But, I guess if my
9:46if the full name, good with it. The
9:48service road is another element. Are we
9:51going to start naming them all
9:53of what they are? I mean, just thinking
9:55out loud.
9:55>> Well, there's
9:56there's
9:57>> would be the
9:58be the Delpha. When they said, you know,
10:01like I said, when they speak his name,
10:02they're going to know his history.
10:04I mean, cuz of I mean, the first thing,
10:06even though the service is going to
10:08automatically [clears throat] pop up
10:09when you review what he was. So, we go
10:11with the full name, it would be no doubt
10:14of who he was and what he did. That
10:16would always follow through.
10:17>> Well, I'd like to just go ahead and make
10:19a motion we
10:21name the road James Walter Service Road.
10:24>> I second.
10:27>> Okay, it's been moved and second.
10:31All in favor?
10:33This is carried.
10:35>> Thank you.
10:36>> Thank you.
10:39>> [snorts]
10:41>> All right.
10:44>> If I may mayor, I'd like to make a
10:46statement.
10:46>> Yeah, we have we can have general
10:48comments, but not related to
10:50>> Mhm.
10:51So, um
10:52this [clears throat] past uh
10:54it was past week or so ago, uh I'd like
10:58like to thank [name] for allowing me to go
11:00to the uh
11:01How is it pronounced it? GFO?
11:04>> GFO?
11:05>> Yeah. Um so, that that um conference and
11:09it gave me a whole lot of
11:11enlightenment onto how [name] operates the
11:15uh the items and some of the um
11:19some of the functionalities that he has
11:21to deal with running the city, and it
11:22gave me a new enlightenment of how he
11:25needs help. And what he needs help with.
11:28Um we we sat and we talked about that to
11:32Um and also I'd like to thank uh being a
11:35member of Keep Crockett Beautiful and
11:37and Crockett Lions Club um
11:40the city for allowing us to uh
11:43adhere to some projects that we have in
11:45the city that we're looking forward to.
11:47Of course, you know we're working me and
11:49uh Mr. Shirley here are working with
11:51flags and uh we we look forward to um
11:56sort of like broadening some
11:57beautification around the city with that
11:59as well. So, thank you.
12:01>> My only comment is today is that you
12:03know it's a good city that you come in
12:05and they recognize people for long term.
12:08We have so many community dedicated
12:11people. I know we can't name them all,
12:13but when we go through it we had a list.
12:15So, we do them one at a time and we'll
12:17remember them cuz when you say the Lions
12:19Club there's a whole lot of names that
12:20fall under him that he worked with
12:22service. And so, it I think it's really
12:24important that we not forget what the
12:27foundation was.
12:28>> Right.
12:29>> And any opportunity that we have to
12:31honor people that have done major things
12:33in our city. I know we might miss some,
12:36but people would say oh they were there
12:37they were there. And so, when you even
12:39with this recognition it comes with the
12:42Lions Club it comes with so many other
12:45other segments.
12:46>> Yes.
12:46>> And that's what we want. I I know we
12:48can't honor everybody name by name, but
12:50when you can honor and they're
12:52representing whole segments of the
12:54community that have helped helped and
12:57are helping and will continue to help be
13:00a We really appreciate that and so,
13:02we're grateful. We're grateful to live
13:04in a city where people recognize what
13:07others are doing and I think that's what
13:09the city grows from.
13:12You pour in that and give me a hand.
13:14>> [laughter]
13:15>> But thank you so much. I will appreciate
13:18you.
13:19Uh and we're nothing else can say. We'll
13:22see.
13:23>> Motion to adjourn.
13:24>> I second.
13:26>> Third, fourth, fifth.
13:28>> Third, fourth, fifth.
13:28>> [laughter]
13:30>> That's good now.
13:32I like it. I like the lump.
13:34I recognize you.
13:36>> I had to do it.
13:38>> You forget back then language
13:40>> Matter of fact, I was a member of the
13:41Lions.
13:43I just never got to
13:45That's what I do.
13:46>> I don't want to break your
13:47>> Thank you very much.
13:48>> That's what I told him.
13:49>> There's a lot
13:49>> That's what I'm being It's been a while,
13:51baby.
13:52>> I don't actually do it.
13:54>> Okay.
13:56>> Yeah.
13:56>> That we celebrate
13:57>> No, no, I got you.
