The tax base

Appraised versus taxable

Crockett ISD tax base

The school district covers the city and the countryside around it, so it is the widest view of property values here, and the Comptroller publishes it in detail every year.

Show the numbers
  • Values are the local tax roll values the appraisal district certified, as reported in the Comptroller's Property Value Study.
  • The gap between the two lines is deductions: homestead exemptions, over-65 and disability exemptions, productivity valuation of farm and ranch land, and similar.

City of Crockett tax base

Inside the city limits only. This is the base the City's tax rate is applied to.

Show the numbers
  • The levy (tax the City bills) is the taxable value times the adopted rate. It appears in the table.

Owners, renters and empty homes

More of Crockett's occupied homes are rented than owned. A falling owner share can mean investors buying houses to rent, or residents who can't afford to buy.

Show the numbers
  • Vacant includes homes for sale or rent, seasonal homes, and homes that are simply empty.
  • Survey estimates for a town this size carry wide margins of error; read the direction over several years, not one year's move.

Median rent

Rent paid by the middle renting household, in each survey's own dollars.

Show the numbers
  • Gross rent is contract rent plus the estimated cost of utilities and fuels paid by the renter.

Coming to this plate

Every parcel in the city limits with its appraised value, land use, and exemptions, searchable by street and shown on the map's parcel layer.

The owners paying the most City and school tax, and what share of the tax base they hold.

    Needs the certified roll
  • What changed hands

Ownership transfers by month: which parcel, from whom, to whom, and when. Texas does not require sale prices to be disclosed, so no public record anywhere carries them, and this page will not either.

    Needs deed records
  • Appraisal changes by street

How much each street's values moved from one year's roll to the next, and where the protests landed.

    Needs two certified rolls
  • What's being built

Building permits issued by the City: address, type of work, and value.

    On hold
Names on this plate. Businesses, government bodies, churches, trusts, and the top taxpayers are named. Individual homeowners appear by address and value only. The full owner record stays where it already lives, at the appraisal district.

The gaps

What the record doesn't show yet
  • Parcel-level data (owners, individual values, exemptions) is sold in bulk through the appraisal district's vendor; it is not yet in open form.
  • Property Value Study years before 2016 are published in an older format and are not yet included.
  • City-limits values before tax year 2021 are not in the Comptroller's current downloadable reports.
  • Sale prices: Texas is a non-disclosure state. They are not public, here or anywhere.
